Cognos Report Studio:
It is the web product used to analyze and create (advanced) corporate/Financial reports according to the specific need. Reports can engage dashboards with gauges, charts, maps and other graphical elements with full drill-through capabilities. Reports designs created in Query Studio can be read and edited in Report Studio (not vice versa). Report Studio is used by Report Authors.
Creating reports depends on the factors like Target Audience/Business question/Data sources and its location/Report distribution type/Security needs.
Query Studio:
A tool used for creating basic ad-hoc reports and a lighter version of Report Studio. It allows users to create one 1-page report at a time. Applications used by Query Authors and Report Authors. The basic operations we do in query studio are:
• Create reports using your data.
• Save and reuse reports.
• View reports in a variety of formats.
• Print reports.
Analysis studio:
A tool used to explore, analyze and compare dimensional data to provide meaningful data to the Business questions and also helps to understand the trends and comparisons. In Cognos Connection, an Analysis Studio report is called an analysis. For Analysis Studio, reports are always run against the latest data in the cube.
The basic operations that can be done in Analysis studio are
• find and focus on items that are important to your business
• understand trends and anomalies
• compare data, such as details to summaries, or actual results to budgeted results
• assess performance by focusing on the best or worst results
• establish relative importance using calculations such as growth or rank
• share your findings with others
Example:
You can use Analysis Studio to compare and manipulate data to understand the relationships between data and its relative importance. Whether you want to assess revenue growth or to identify top performers, Analysis Studio provides the filtering, calculating, and sorting support you need for analysis.
Difference between Report and Query studio:
Both Report Studio and Query Studio can be accessed from within the Cognos Connection web portal. Report Studio is used to create sophisticated reports and charts with complex prompts and filters. Query Studio is used to create ad hoc queries and simple reports and charts.
Report Studio has some special functionality like Bursting, Prompts & Advanced Charting whereas Query Studio doesn't have these options.
Difference between Report/Query and Analysis Studio:
Query Studio: Query Studio Reports are Adhoc-Reports.
Report Studio: It is used for doing Reports. And we have able to do multiple reports in Report Studio.
Blank Report,
List Report,
Crosstab report,
Chart Report,
Repeater,
Finance Report,
Map Report.
These are the reports that can be done in Report studio.
Analysis Studio: We will do only cube based reports. We suppose to do only Crosstab Reports.
How to Login to Report/Analysis/Query studio:
In the Cognos connection page, click Launch tab and drop down list appears. Click on the respective tab. (Query/Analysis/Report studio) from the drop down list to work with the respective studios.
It prompts for the package to work with. Select a package from the prompted list.
Query studio -->Home page
Report studio -->Home page
Click Create new report to create a report
Select the required report type (list/chart/crosstab/blank…)
Analysis Studio -->Home page
Select blank analysis tab and click ok.
