How to create a crosstab report in cognos report Studio? Beginners Guide - Tutorial-2

Cognos as IBM undertook is having many features and many templates to create a report in a more user-friendly way. There are 4 different variety of report templates, namely- LIST, CROSSTAB, CHARTS and MAPS.  We have already seen How to create a List report in Cognos report Studio and How to create a column Chart report in cognos report studio. You can go through them if you didn't yet.

Here are the steps to create a crosstab report in cognos report studio:

1. Select Report Studio in launch option at the top right corner of the Cognos Connection.
2. Now, a new window will open for Report Studio which prompts you to select a package and type of report.
3. Select Cross Tab report in the option window that is popped up. You can alternatively select a crosstab from the insertable objects pane.
4. You will get a crosstab as shown above.  You have 3 places to drop data items in Cross Tab report unlike List report. They are :

  • ROWS
  • COLUMS
  • MEASURES
5. Now select the ones you want to display the data for in either rows or columns and drag them accordingly. For deatils of dragging, please refer How to create a List report tutorial in this category.
6. Measures should be the data item you are going to measure on.
In this case, we have used Product line and product type as columns and region and country as Rows. Measures can be any thing like Margin amount etc.

Now you have learnt how to create a list, chart and crosstab. So go ahead and try various types and if you have anything to share or ask, please feel free to do by using comment section. You can also mail me using my contact page if you want me to personally address the same.
