Solutions for issues and Tips on customizing the cognos chart reports

In order to change the properties you can select on the properties pane properties. Few of the properties depend on other properties. You can customize the chart reports in cognos very easily depending upon some arithmetic, logic or conditional expressions statements if you know how to use conditional variables. But there are many other customizations other than conditional variable customizations in cognos for changing the report display properties, format options like header, footer, labels, titles, grouping, summarizations,performance tuning like query performance, database performance etc.



Following are the Important customizations that are to be known in Customizing charts reports in Cognos:
Cognos issue: How to show or Hide the title subtitle or footer in a chart?
Solution: Below the option Chart Titles,select and change the Title or Subtitle or Footer property.

Cognos issue: How to show or Hide the legend options or baselines markers or notes in a chart?
Solution: Below the option for Chart Annotations, select on the the Legend or Baselines or Markers or Notes property and modify as per the need.

Cognos issue: How to show or Hide the axes in chart?
Solution: Below the option for Axes, select Y1 or Y2 or Ordinal Axis's property and change it.

Cognos issue: How to show or Hide the axis line or axis title in Cognos charts?
Solution: Click on the Y-axis and in the options pane, below the General Modify the properties for Axis Line and Title

Cognos issue: How to show or Hide the gridlines in chart report types?
Solution: click on the y-axis or the ordinal axis. Below the General button, you find the Gridlines/ Minor Gridlines as a property, change it.

Cognos issue: How to display the border around the legend?
Solution: Click on the legend icon. Below the General, alter the property called borders.

Cognos issue: How can i make the Chart display in different 3D appearance?
you can do that by changing the Depth or Visual Angle property in general options.

Cognos issue: How to show or Hide the border around the chart object?
Solution: Modify the property called border property under the charts properties box.

Cognos issue: How can i display the tooltips?
Note: Some of the pdfs cannot render the tooltips.
Solution: to change this, you can simply modify the tooltips property.

Cognos issue: How to change the options like range or interval in Y-Axis properties?
Solution: you can select the options Minimum value, Maximum Value, Scale interval, Scale Property Under the options General.

Cognos issue: How can i modify the data format
Click on the y-axis and below option Data, you find the Data Format property, change it.

Cognos issue: How to alter ordinal axis properties like label truncation or skip interval?
Click on the ordinal axis. Below the option General, Click on the Truncation -> Allow Rotation or Allow Stagger or Allow Skip property.

Cognos issue: I have a white space around the chart, How can i remove it.
Click on the option for Padding/Margin property and change it.

Go to the Background Image property and change it.

Select the lock icon in the toolbar and unlock the chart object,You can also Click on the chart body by clicking on the place between the axes, and modify the Background Color or Foreground Color or Font or Fill Effects property.

Cognos issue: How can i Resize the chart
Below the options for Positioning, modify the Size & Overflow property.

Cognos issue: Insert a background image or watermark in the chart body, that is, the space between the axes
Select the lock icon in the toolbar and unlock the chart object, click on the chart body by clicking between the axes, and change the Background Image property.
